Hoodia Gordonii is one of the few exceptional plants current on earth. This has eventually incorporated motivation for the media to propagate the legendary cactus-like plant. Large TV groups such as BBC, MSNBC, Oprah and CBS have broadcasted reports on Hoodia Gordonii. The CBS, 60 Minutes investigation news, broadcast 21, November, 2004 was sensational. The plant was considered by the media to be a successful natural appetite suppressant.

The 60 Minutes show, did apparently make the greatest impact on the market. During their report they tested Hoodia Gordonii. They consumed the plant and elucidated the outcome. The crew traveled to South Africa and hired a local Bushman. The man helped the crew to find a Hoodia Gordonii plant. One of the reporters (Stahl) ate the cactus-like plant. The outcome was positive; it acted as a natural appetite suppressant. The individual did not crave for food and drinks throughout the day. There were also no immediate and concurrent side-effects experienced by Stahl. The plant was considered green and healthy.
The positive feedback evaluated by the media led to the induction of the medication to the American market. It had a great demand. Unfortunately inconsistency in variety of the Hoodia Gordonii resulted in confusion. There were a variety of products sold, which did eventually not contain the famous P57 molecule. This was clinically confirmed by Alkemists Pharmaceutical. It was thus concluded in the Consumer Report, 2006 that Hoodia medicine lacks clinical testing and evidence. The product is thus not yet recommended by experts.
